Tonight on Dances With Bass Radio, we’re feeling groovy. Free Ride was written by Dan Hartman, a songwriter who is most known for having written I Can Dream About You, and almost unbelievably (at least to me) James Brown’s Living In America. Hartman wrote Free Ride, but never recorded it; instead, he sold it to The Edgar Winter Group. Free Ride hit number 14 on the Billboard charts and has been a classic rock radio station staple for more than 40 years. They Only Come Out at Night also contains the rock radio instrumental hit, Frankenstein. Edgar Winter still performs at nearly 70 years old. His brother, Johnny, died in 2014 at the age of 70. Interestingly, both Edgar and Johnny, are albinos. Video: No official video was made for this song, but I have included a high-quality audio track for your musical pleasure: Sadly, there aren’t many live performances of this song available, but this one is decent: You Might Also Like:
