 Lyrics:

Got a box full of letters,
Think you might like to read
Some things that you might like to see,
But they’re all addressed to me
Wish I had a lotta answers,
‘Cause that’s the way it should be
For all these questions,
Being directed at me
I just can’t find the time
To write my mind

I got a lot of your records,
In a separate stack Some things that I might like to hear,
But I guess I’ll give ’em back

The way I want it to read

You’ll come back again
And I’ll still be your friend
I got a lot of your records,
In a separate stack
Some things that I might like to hear,
But I guess I’ll give ’em back
I wish I had a lotta answers,
‘Cause that’s the way it should be
All these questions
Being directed at me
Just can’t find the time
To write my mind
The way I want it to read
You’ll come back again,
And I’ll still be your friend
I can’t find the time
To write my mind
The way I want it to read
Just can’t find the time
To write my mind
The way I want it to read

In the early 1980s and late 1990s, southern Illinois musicians Jay Farrar and Jeff Tweedy were defining a new musical genre that took the best of country music and mixed it with the best of punk and alternative music. The result was Uncle Tupelo, and out of that marriage came four seminal albums that continue to influence a generation of musicians. Unfortunately, the relationship between Farrar and Tweedy was fraught with discord, and in 1994, Uncle Tupelo split forever.

Out of the ashes came two new bands: Farrar’s Son Volt and Tweedy’s Wilco, both of which still produce fantastic records.

A.M. is Wilco’s first record and along with 1996’s Being There, remains my favorite Wilco records. A.M. received very little acclaim and failed to chart, and may regard Being There as the first real Wilco record. However, both Box Full of Letters and Pick Up the Change remain in regular rotation here at the Dances with Bass home office.
