Lyrics: Sittin’ here with me and mine |
While many music aficionados are no strangers to the genius of My Morning Jacket—a five-piece hailing from Louisville, Kentucky—they’ve never achieved the mass success that they deserve. Sure, they are the darlings of music critics, but they’ve yet to crack super-stardom. Their blend of rock, country and indie alternative sounds is pure genius. Mahgeetah is airy, ambient, and it powerful. Clocking in at just shy of six minutes, the first third of this track is wide open, spacious, and well, beautiful. However, about the time you conclude that it’s a pretty song, you slowly realize that it is kicking ass. The intensity builds into a fierce guitar, and just when you think it’s over, it comes back to smack you on the back if your head a second time. And I have absolutely no idea what Mahgeetah means, though one fan said he thinks it’s a love song to a guitar being sung by someone who’s had too much to drink. Absent a better explanation, I can live with that. Video: |
