Lyrics: Hold on!
See chameleon If you’re in the swing See chameleon If you gotta crush See chameleon Oh now can’t you wait See the chameleon Run run away Get It: Unfortunately, Keep Your Hands Off My Power Supply is in short supply and a bit expensive, so I recommend picking up a copy of the band’s Greatest Hits record instead: |
On this dreary post winter, building jumper-offer kinda day, the music curators here at the Dances with Bass nuclear silo were feeling a bit down in the mouth (as the Brits are wont to say). That is until the music gods served up Slade’s Run Runaway from one of our vast playlists. Here we were, mid-edit on a grammatically challenged, which was eliciting some serious contemplation of our life choices, when the sounds of tribal drums, a joyous fiddle, and crunchy power chords filled our headphones with sonic glee. One moment, we were contemplating the required number of whacks to our skulls from our laptop keyboards were necessary to find the gooey centers of our skulls, and the next moment, we were making one of the house cats (Sir Milo Montgomery Kughen, if you’re interested) dance a happy jig. And we probably don’t have to tell you, cats don’t like dancing happy jigs. Hailing from Wolverhampton, England, glam rockers Slade formed in 1966 and rose to fame and riches during the early 1970s glam rock coming out. Unbeknownst to many, Slade penned and recorded Cum On Feel the Noize and Mama Weer All Crazee Now, both of which would become smash hard rock hits by Quiet Riot in the 1980s. Both were smash hits in the UK, but didn’t really achieve fame across the pond, as it were, until Quiet Riot covered them. Slade’s coming out party in the U.S. was led by today’s featured cut, Run Runaway, which appeared on the album, Keep Your Hands Off My Power Supply. The album was a repackaged version of the band’s The Amazing Kamikaze Syndrome album, which had dropped in the UK the prior year. In the U.S., the record spawned two hits—today’s track and My Oh My. While the band was a headliner through much of the 1970s and 1980s in the UK, its stint at the top of the U.S. charts was short-lived. The band’s lineup has changed tremendously over the years with drummer Dan Powell and guitarist Dave Hill being the two mainstays. The tophat-wearing vocalist Noddy Holder left the band in 1992, though he will forever be regarded as the band’s face during its heyday. The band remains together today, though they haven’t released new material since 1994. Video: Here is the official video for Slade’s Run Runaway. As a postscript, this might be the most British video I’ve ever seen. Ever. And it’s wonderful. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ikMiQZF-mAY You Might Also Like:
