Today, I am feeling a gold ol’ fashioned boogie coming on, and when that happens, I reach for Nobody But Me by The Human Beinz. This 1967 hit was written and first recorded by The Isley Brothers in 1962. The Isley Brothers version didn’t chart, but The Human Beinz cover hit number 8 on the Billboard pop singles chart in 1968. I once tried to count the number of times the word “no” is sung in this song, but I lost consciousness while trying to dance, sing and count all at once. At any rate, according to the Book of Rock Lists by Dave Marsh, “no” is sung more than 100 times in just two minutes, seventeen seconds, quite possibly making it the most negative rock song of all-time. This sixties rock staple is still often heard today and has been used in a variety of movies and television shows, including Quentin Tarantino’s Kill Bill: Volume 1. My favorite usage, however, was in this off-beat clip from The Office, shown below. I’m not exactly sure what the “boogaloo” is, so I just flail around and try not to step on the cats or dislodge any of the titanium pieces parts that are holding me together.
