Lyrics: The tree in the front of the yard And that’s just how I feel The blood pooled at my legs is starting to flow

Of all the tracks in my music library, Not Going Home is one of the finest recordings I own; and by “finest,” I mean both the actual song and the production. The gentle reverb on the guitar, the heavy bass drum, and the rich bass line are sonic perfection. This is a song that you “feel” as much as hear. It deserves a fine pair of headphones, a plush rocking chair, and easy access to the volume knob. The Elected hail from Los Angeles and are in the Sub Pop label, which best known for producing grunge rock superstars Nirvana and Soundgarden, and in recent years, have signed alternative acts such as Fleet Foxes and The Shins. The Elected are led by vocalist, keyboardist, and guitarist Blake Sennett, and sadly, haven’t dropped a new album since 2011’s Bury Me In My Rings. Because I am a parent, I feel some responsibility to warn you that Not Going Home contains a pretty clear F-bomb at about the three-quarter mark. Caveat emptor. The video below, however, was censored by the producer. The second video posted below is a user-created video that has much, much better audio fidelity, and is not censored. Please, give this song a listen with some volume. It’s powerful. It’s beautiful. And it hits hard. Video: This is the official—entirely creepy—video: You Might Also Like: |
