This rock/folk/country-tinged track has been in multiple playlists of mine for several years now, and I defy you not to get swept away by this infectiously catchy tune about just how far one guy will go to see his baby’s smile. Ben Arthur is both a musician and novelist, and in addition to writing and recording his own music, he’s written music for multiple artists including Turin Brakes, John Wesley Harding, and My Brightest Diamond. He has toured with a variety of widely known artists, including the Old 97s, Tori Amos, Shawn Colvin, Dave Matthews Band, and Bruce Hornsby. Other notable tracks from Edible Darling include Keep Me Around and Tonight. Arthur’s music crosses multiple genres, which makes pigeonholing him into a specific genre pretty difficult. Today’s featured album, Edible Darling, is both a staff favorite here at the Dances with Bass hillside farm and a topic of much discussion insofar as unusual album covers are concerned. Be sure to visit Ben Arthur’s website, too. Video: No official video was made for Broken-Hearted Smile, and we have been unable to locate any live performances on video, so we’ll have to settle for an audio track: Here is a live performance of Keep Me Around. (Be sure to listen to the lyrics and consider this to be an official request from Mr. Dances with Bass who would appreciate it if you used the caps of his knees as tiny dishes for keys and such.)
